Joseph’s injury adds to CB woes

- Aaron Wilson

Texans cornerback Johnathan Joseph is expected to be out for at least a few weeks after he sprained the medial collateral ligament in his knee and suffered a high-ankle sprain Thursday night against Miami, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly.

Joseph was replaced by undrafted rookie safety Natrell

Jamerson against the Dolphins. A two-time Pro Bowl cornerback, Joseph has started every game this season, recording 34 tackles and returning one interception for a touchdown.

The Texans play the Denver Broncos on Nov. 4 before an open date and then a Nov. 18 game at Washington. Under that best-case scenario, Joseph might only miss one game.

The rigors of the season have been particularly trying for the Texans at cornerback.

Coach Bill O’Brien is hopeful starting cornerback Aaron Colvin, out for the past month with an ankle injury, might possibly return following the week off.

The team is also optimistic cornerback Shareece Wright

(groin, shoulder, thumb) could be back for the Denver game.

O’Brien didn’t think cornerback Kevin Johnson, on injured reserve with a concussion, would be back after the open date. Johnson is eligible to be designated for return. Texans secondary coach Anthony Midget has had to prepare several young players to step in, including Jamerson and safety Mike Tyson with Andre

Hal now sidelined with a shoulder injury.

“He deserves a lot of credit,” O’Brien said of Midget. “It’s kind of like what I was saying before about the coaching staff on defense. (Defensive coordinator)

Romeo (Crennel) does a great job in the coaching staff room.

“He’s got so much experience, so he’s able to give his wisdom to younger coaches. ‘Hey look, these guys need to be ready to play corner, safety, nickel, dime,’ whatever we ask them to do.”

Odds and ends

Lamar Miller rushed for a season-high 133 yards on 18 carries and scored a touchdown in Thursday’s 42-23 victory over the Dolphins. It was his second consecutive 100-yard game. … Tight end Jordan Thomas’ two touchdown receptions against Miami tied the franchise record for touchdown catches in a game by a rookie, joining Andre Johnson, Owen Daniels and Jaelen Strong. … Running back D’Onta Foreman, out since last November with a torn Achilles tendon, is getting closer to being able to practice with the team, according to coach Bill O’Brien.
