Tristan Heaton kicked a 34yard field goal with six seconds remaining as Atascocita rallied to defeat Summer Creek 36-35 on Friday night at Turner Stadium.

Heaton’s field goal lifted the Eagles (7-1, 6-0), who were down by two points, into sole possession of first place in District 22-6A; the Bulldogs fell to 5-2 overall and 5-1 in district.

“I knew it was my job to finish it,” said Heaton, a senior. “I hit the ball well and came up big for my team. I would like to dedicate this one to my team.”

Atascocita was down by 12 points, which was the most it has trailed all season but outscored Summer Creek 20-7 in the second half.

The Eagles’ defense came up big in the fourth quarter when linebacker Myron Morrison blocked a Bulldogs punt that went into the end zone with 1:20 left in the game.

“Myron, I told him it could have been a lot easier to fall on it for a touchdown,” Summer Creek coach Craig Stump said. “You have to finish the game whether it’s a touchdown or safety. We only need 25 yards or so.”

Atascocita then drove down for Heaton’s game-winning field goal to clinch the victory — its fifth in a row over the Bulldogs.

Stump liked the way his young team came from behind.

“It was good to come out on the right end of it,” Stump said. “To have adversity and have to make plays to win.”
