Woman sentenced for financial fraud

-

A Houston woman has received the statutory maximum sentence for posing as a financial adviser and defrauding professional athletes out of millions of dollars.

Peggy Fulford, 60, was sentenced Wednesday to 120 months in prison and a threeyear supervised release, according to a press release from the office of Southern District of Texas U.S. Attorney Ryan Patrick.

Fulford was also ordered to pay almost $5.8 million in restitution to the victims of her crimes, which included former NBA players Travis Best and Dennis Rodman and NFL football players Ricky Williams and Lex Hilliard.

Fulford admitted to falsely telling her victims she was a Harvard-educated financial adviser and money manager, and that she had made millions of dollars on Wall Street by buying and selling real estate in the Bahamas.
