On to-do list, cut turnovers, fouls
With the Rockets’ schedule crowded with eight games in a span of 14 days, their practice in Toyota Center on Wednesday could be their only workout or one of just two in that stretch with coach
Mike D’Antoni saying there were things to “iron out” despite wins in the first three games of their five-game trip.
“Just keep getting better defensively,” D’Antoni said of the top of his to-do list. “Then offensively, we’re watching film and we’re actually executing better than we did last year. It’s better for end of games, but we’re having too many turnovers. We’re not quite flowing yet. Is that a matter of guys not quite being in the rhythm of being together? We’ll see. Suspension and being hurt? We’ll see. We have to cut our turnovers down.
“We foul too much now. We have to cut that out.”
The Rockets average the 10th fewest turnovers in the NBA, but they had 17 in Monday’s win at Indiana. They rank 20th in fouls per game. They have shown signs of progress, especially defensively where their rating in the first three games of the trip would rank fourth in the NBA if for the full season.
“We’re starting to figure some things out on how we wanted to play, should play offensively and defensively,” forward Carmelo
Anthony said. “Especially defensively, the past couple games this road trip I think we figured out some things about our team.”
