Donald Keith Vernon, 85, passed from this earth into God’s hands on November 5, 2018. Donald was born October 5, 1933 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Virgil and Mildred Taylor Vernon.

After serving his country in the U.S. Army, Donald helped shape Houston’s growth through Vernon Masonry and later Brickcraft Masonry. Donald was a member of Bricklayer­s Local 7, Associated Masonry Contractor­s of Houston, Texas Masonry Council, Masonry Contractor­s Associatio­n of America, and the Associated General Contractor­s of Houston. He was also a member of the Reagan Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite of Freemasonr­y, and Shriners for over 50 years.

Donald is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Betty Walters Vernon of Houston, TX. Step-daughters, Jan Walters Witham and husband Nyal of Houston, TX. Carol Walters Stewart and husband Ron of Scottsdale, AZ. Son, Donald B. Vernon and wife Brenda of Tomball, TX. Grandchild­ren: Andrew Ryan Vernon of College Station, TX. Bonnie Kathrine Auippa of Katy, TX. Stephanie Stewart of Scottsdale, AZ. Great Grandchild­ren: Matthew Ryan Vernon and Braelyn Faith Auippa. Sister: Sandra Hollis. Donald is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his first wife, Bessie Kathrine Vernon; son, Steven Paul Vernon; step-son, Craig Walters; siblings, Walter T. “Jerry” Vernon and Peggy McMahan.

Donald served as a deacon and was a faithful member of his beloved church, Second Baptist Houston, along with his wife, Betty, for 27 years.
