Baylor women put 7 in double figures in rout of Southern

WACO — Freshman guard Honesty Scott-Grayson scored 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting to lead seven Baylor players in double figures as the fourth-ranked Lady Bears easily got past Southern University 94-49 on Thursday night even without All-America post player Kalani Brown.

The 6-7 Brown sat out after rolling her ankle earlier this week, ending her streak of 113 consecutiv­e games and 64 starts in a row. Coach Kim Mulkey had said Brown was available if needed, but the Lady Bears (4-0) overmatche­d Southern even without the post.

TEXAS 96, MCNEESE ST. 40

Charli Collier scored 15 points and blocked a career-high five shots, and the No. 11 Longhorns rolled to a victory over the Cowgirls in Austin.

Collier had seven points as Texas opened on a 30-12 first quarter and went on to build a 48-19 halftime advantage. Collier finished 7-of-14 shooting. Danni Williams had 14 points for Texas (3-0).

Anriel Howard and Teaira McCowan both finished with double-doubles as the No. 6 Bulldogs overcame a slow start to roll past the Cardinals in Starkville, Miss.

Lamar (3-1) was led by Chastadie Barrs, who had 16 points.

SOUTH CAROLINA 69 CLEMSON 57

Te’a Cooper scored 15 points to lead the 10th-ranked Gamecocks to a sloppy win over the Tigers in Columbia, S.C. South Carolina turned the ball over 27 times and shot just 36 percent.

OKLAHOMA ST. 70 PRAIRIE VIEW A&M 50

Vivian Gray had 23 points and eight rebounds, Mariam Gnanou added 16 points and nine rebounds and the Cowgirls bea the Panthers in Stillwater, Okla.

Shala Dobbins led Prairie View A&M (1-1) with eight points.

Men TCU 77, FRESNO ST. 69

Desmond Bane scored 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting, including the go-ahead 3-pointer, to lead five players in double figures for the No. 21 Horned Frogs in a win over the Bulldogs in Fort Worth.

Alex Robinson had 13 points and 14 assists for TCU, and Kevin Samuel also had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. JD Miller also scored 14 for the Frogs, while RJ Nembhard had 11.

Bane’s tiebreakin­g 3 about two minutes after halftime put TCU (3-0) ahead to stay.

CONNECTICU­T 83, SYRACUSE 76

Jalen Adams and Alterique Gilbert scored 16 points each to lead the Huskies to an upset of the No. 15 Orange in the first game of the 2K Classic in New York.

In its first season under Dan Hurley, Connecticu­t improved to 3-0. The Huskies took the 95th all-time meeting between the schools, and are 39-56 against UConn.

IOWA 77, OREGON 69

Jordan Bohannon scored 16 points to lead the Hawkeyes to an upset of the No. 13 Ducks in the second semifinal of the 2K Classic.

Iowa (3-0) will play UConn in the championsh­ip game tomorrow, while Oregon (2-1) will meet No. 15 Syracuse in the consolatio­n game.

VIRGINIA TECH 73, BALL ST. 64

Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored 21 points for the No. 16 Hokies, who opened the Charleston Classic with a 73-64 victory over the Cardinals in Charleston, S.C.
