- BY EMILIA BENTON

Although it’s not exactly beach season, visiting downtown Galveston brings great enjoyment to Christmastime visitors thanks to the abundance of holiday activities available each year. One such option is visiting one of several antique shops the area has to offer, whether it’s for holiday-specific gift shopping, or just to pick up a unique keepsake to commemorate your trip.

Hendley Market

Hendley Market is located in a historic Civil War-era building on The Strand. The store was established in 1979, and since its inception, it has sold a variety of antique and specialty items.

“We currently offer a little bit of everything and a variety of unique items, including Victorian sterling silver pieces, international nativity collections from around the world and our Texas Cider Beetle mulling spice,” said Cheryl Jenkins, store manager, Hendley Market. “We especially encourage holiday visitors to come out during the Dickens on the Strand event.”

Flea by the Sea

Flea by the Sea, located at 2501 Market St., is another area antique shop offering new items and vintage decor. The shop also carries a variety of antique and vintage pieces in their original condition to serve as home furnishings.
