Rejoice during Christmas time at The Grand

- BY JAN BURNS

Celebrate Galveston’s Winter Wonder Island at The Grand 1894 Opera House. It’s the premier performing arts theater in the Gulf Coast region and presents a year-round schedule of performances featuring stars of stage and screen, Broadway blockbusters, dance, music and comedy.

The Grand is presenting the following holiday shows: Merry Texas Christmas Y’all! from Asleep at the Wheel - Saturday, Nov. 24, at 8 p.m.

“Ray Benson and Asleep at the Wheel are Grand favorites and have performed on our stage a number of times. It’s a holiday western swing evening that can’t be beat!” said Maureen M. Patton, executive director, The Grand 1894 Opera House. The Priests - Live in Concert, Sunday, Nov. 25, at 7 p.m. Combine the beautiful music of the holidays with three Irishmen who sing like angels and you’ll be touched by the spirit of Christmas. A Christmas Carol, Friday, Nov. 30 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 1, at 3 p.m. Dickens’ Weekend and Dickens’ A Christmas Carol are a matched pair. This timeless retelling of a classic has become one of The Grand’s favorite holiday traditions. Big Band Holidays — Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, Sunday, Dec. 2, at 4 p.m. Who doesn’t love big band music? And who better to help celebrate the holidays with the big band sound than Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. All is Calm — The Christmas Truce of 1914, Sunday, Dec. 9, at 4 p.m.

With our world in a constant state of disruption, seeing this historic event onstage may be the most powerful gift we give and receive this season. Consider bringing a veteran to share this with you. A Charlie Brown Christmas — Live on Stage, Sunday, Dec. 23, at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Everybody loves Charlie Brown, even when he creates chaos around him. The music and story will take you back to your own memories of Christmas.
