No. 1 Duke survives against Auburn, to face Gonzaga

Hawaii — R.J. Barrett and Cam Reddish scored 18 points each, and top-ranked Duke survived its stiffest challenge of the season, holding off No. 8 Auburn 78-72 on Tuesday night to reach the Maui Invitation­al title game.

The Blue Devils (5-0) got off to another stellar start, looking as if they run another top-10 team out of the gym.

The Tigers (4-1) clawed back, trimming a 17-point deficit to 61-56 in the second half by attacking Duke at both ends.

But every time Auburn tried to get closer, the Blue Devils answered with an alley-oop dunk or stepback jumper.

Duke will play No. 3 Gonzaga on Wednesday night for a chance at an unpreceden­ted sixth Maui Invitation­al title.

GONZAGA 91, ARIZONA 74

Rui Hachimura scored 24 points, Zach Norvell Jr. added 20, and thirdLAHAI­NA, ranked Bulldogs earned a spot in the Maui Invitation­al title game with a win over the Wildcats while improving to 5-0.

Justin Coleman had 28 points for Arizona (4-1), which had three assists on 21 made field goals.

LIPSCOMB 73, TCU 64

Garrison Mathews had 23 points, Kenny Cooper scored 17 with a couple of breakaway layups off steals, and the Bisons held on to upset the No. 18 Horned Frogs in Fort Worth for their first win over a Top 25 team.

Alex Robinson had 17 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for TCU (3-1), which lost a November game for the first time since 2015.

TEXAS TECH 70 NEBRASKA 52

Jarrett Culver poured in 26 points, Matt Mooney scored 15, and the Red Raiders overcame a slow start to beat the Cornhusker­s in the title game of the Hall of Fame Classic at Kansas City, Mo., and improve to 5-0.

EAST TENNESSEE ST. 77 SAM HOUSTON ST. 63

Tray Boyd scored 23 points, and Mladen Armus added 17 with nine rebounds as the Buccaneers pulled away from the Bearkats in the second half for a victory in the Cayman Islands Classic Mainland at Johnson City, Tenn.

Kai Mitchell had 16 points for Sam Houston State (3-4).

Women TEXAS A&M 61 LITTLE ROCK 40

Aaliyah Wilson tied a career high with 20 points, N’Dea Jones had 12 points and 13 rebounds, and the 20th-ranked Aggies defeated the Trojans in Little Rock, Ark.

Wilson scored eight points in the first quarter as Texas A&M led 15-12, and she finished the half with 16 points, three steals and two blocks for a 27-20 lead. The Aggies (3-1) made six of their first seven shots after the break, building a 17-point lead.

RICE 76 TEXAS SOUTHERN 71

Erica Ogwumike had 20 points and 11 rebounds, Jasmine Smith and Lauren Grigsby each scored 16 points, and the Owls edged the visiting Tigers to improve to 2-2.

Marquia Turner scored 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting to lead Texas Southern.
