Malato is one of 83 pets surrendered by owners
It’s no fun growing old, especially when you age as fast as dogs do. Meet Malato, a 10-year-old Maltese mix, who was surrendered by his owner who was moving.
Not only does Malato have no home, he also suffers from cataracts. Everything that was familiar to him — his environment, routines, smells and the people he was bonded to — is now gone. The Harris County Animal Shelter medical team thinks his cataracts can be corrected so he can see a little better.
But Malato is one of 83 animals surrendered in four days to the shelter at 612 Canino. This doesn’t even include stray animals that were brought in by citizens or animal control officers.
All of the surrendered pets need homes. Some were given up because their owners moved, others because they had an injured leg or there were too many animals in the home. Then there were those who were given up because their owners have no time for a pet.
Regardless of their reasons for being at the shelter, they need homes.
