Satterfield going to Louisville
Louisville tabbed Appalachian State’s Scott Satterfield to be its next coach.
A person with knowledge of the situation said the school reached an agreement with Satterfield.
Satterfield, 45, led the Mountaineers to a 51-24 record in six seasons, including 10-2 this year with a Sun Belt Conference championship. Appalachian State will face Middle Tennessee in the New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 15.
Satterfield will replace Bobby Petrino, who was fired on Nov. 11 after a 2-8 start.

East Carolina hired Mike Houston as its next coach. Houston, who received a five-year contract, led James Madison to a 37-6 record, the 2016 national title in the Football Championship Subdivision and an appearance in the championship game in 2017.He also led James Madison to a 34-14 rout at East Carolina in the 2017 season opener.
Massachusetts hired Florida State offensive coordinator Walt Bell as its new head coach. Bell, 34, has been a fast riser in college coaching, going from a graduate assistant at Southern Mississippi to offensive coordinator at two Power Five schools before the age of 35. Before joining Willie Taggart’s staff at Florida State, he spent two years as offensive coordinator at Maryland. He also was offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Arkansas State for two seasons.
Turner Gill is retiring as coach at Liberty. Gill, 56, went 6-6 this season —his seventh with the Flames. His teams went 47-35 during his tenure. In a statement, Gill said his wife was diagnosed with a heart condition in 2016 and they decided he should stay to lead the transition, but “it is now time for me to step away.” Gill, a former Nebraska quarterback, also has been the head coach at Buffalo and Kansas.
