-

1940-2018

Chesley N. Brooks, Jr. left his earthly life on December 4, 2018. Ches was born in Houston, Texas on July 20, 1940, to Lois Gillette Brooks and Chesley N. Brooks, Sr. He leaves behind his wife and best friend, Julie Cripe Brooks; daughters Elizabeth Brooks Parks and her husband Andrew, and Emily Brooks Garriott and her husband Huntley; granddaughters Ainsley, Alexandra, and Caroline Parks; Taylor, Jessie, and Morgan Garriott; Penny Brooks, mother of Elizabeth and Emily; and his loving and faithful labrador retriever, Lexie.

Ches graduated from St. Marks School in Dallas, Texas and received undergraduate and graduate degrees from Southern Methodist University. His career began with Mobil Oil in Dallas and New York. He had a strong desire to return to his native Texas, and accepted a position with Highland Resources in Houston, working with George R. Brown on a myriad of commercial real estate projects throughout Texas, the United States, as well as internationally. When George Brown made significant investments in two banks in Houston, Ches was asked to oversee them. This led to a 35 year career in banking at Spring Branch Bank and MacGregor Park National Bank (which became OmniBank, N.A.) until he retired in 2014.

Ches was honored to serve on the State Bar of Texas Grievance Committee and on the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas Board of Directors where he served as Chairman for 5 years. He loved the Texas Hill Country and Lake Travis where he resided for the last 12 years. He spent his time enjoying the lake and traveling the world with his family.

Pallbearers are Huntley Garriott, Charlie Kirchhoff, Don Kirchhoff, Rodney McLain, Andrew Parks, and Jack Wright.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the St. David’s Foundation in Austin or American Festival for the Arts (AFA) in Houston.
