Mila and Roxy are ready to move on from Alvin Animal Adoption Center.
Mila likely never intended to be in an animal shelter for an entire year. But the Alvin Animal Adoption Center has been her home since Valentine’s Day 2018.
Since Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, we’re hoping it’s a sign she’ll find a loving home soon. She’s a young adult pit mix that is cool with some dogs, not cool with others — like many people. She loves to play ( just look at that face) and is ready for a forever home. Also at the Alvin shelter is Roxy, a senior boxer who has been waiting for a home for more than three months. She’s a sweetheart but doesn’t play well with livestock. (Who does?) She’s missing most of her teeth (no jokes, please), so a soft-food diet is on her menu.
Then there’s Howdy, a sweet-faced Plott hound mix who is the perfect gentleman and even knows not to act a fool around cats. He’ll be a great companion for young or old pet lovers. And there are these goddesses — Athena, a female adult Lab mix, and Aphrodite, an adult female terrier-boxer mix — who have both been in the shelter for more than 400 days. They are ready for a forever home, too.
The shelter also has a variety of cats, like Marcella, who arrived at the shelter with a mangled front leg and most of her tail missing. Her leg and tail were both amputated. Despite the pain, she’s a trooper and is ready for a home with lots of love and affection.
The Alvin Animal Adoption Center is located at 550 W. Texas 6 in Alvin. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday; closed on Mondays. Adoptions fees are $45 for a dog or a cat, thanks to the shelter’s sponsors. The fee includes spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations. For information, visit alvintx.gov/page/animalshelter.home.
