Rice runs streak to 14 in row

Rice raced to its school-record 14th consecutiv­e victory with a 76-44 rout of Florida Internatio­nal in a Conference USA women’s game at Tudor Fieldhouse on Thursday night.

“When we care about every possession no matter what the score is we become a better team,” Owls coach Tina Langley said. “Tonight everybody … played as hard as they could.”

Rice (21-3, 12-0 CUSA) ended the first half on a 23-2 run. The Panthers (4-21, 1-11) trailed 47-17 at the break.

The Owls are off to their best 24-game start in program history. Their streak is tied for the second-longest in the country behind Oregon (16).

Rice true freshman Haylee Swayze and senior Nicole Iademarco tied for team scoring honors with 15 points apiece. Guard Erica Ogwumike registered her 14th double-double, contributi­ng 11 points and 12 rebounds.

TEXAS A&M 59, LSU 55

Kayla Wells scored 16 points, N’dea Jones grabbed 15 rebounds and the No. 22 Aggies won at College Station for their eighth win in nine games.

Chennedy Carter added 15 points and Ciera Johnson chipped in 12 for Texas A&M (19-5, 8-3 SEC). Khayla Pointer led LSU (14-9, 5-6) with 21 points.

MISSOURI 75, MISSISSIPP­I ST. 67

Sophie Cunningham scored 24 points, and the Tigers upset the No. 5 Bulldogs at Starkville, Miss.

Missouri (19-7, 8-4 Southeaste­rn Conference) trailed for much of the night, but pulled ahead 55-54 on Akira Levy’s layup at the third-quarter buzzer.

Mississipp­i State (22-2, 10-1) had its 12-game win streak snapped.

SOUTH CAROLINA 65 GEORGIA 57

Destanni Henderson scored 14 points and the No. 11 Gamecocks pulled away at home for their sixth straight SEC victory.

Men FLA. INTERNATIO­NAL 86, RICE 65

Devon Andrews had 25 points as the Panthers routed the Owls at Miami, Fla.

Brian Beard Jr. had 18 points for Florida Internatio­nal (15-11, 6-7 Conference USA).

Quentin Millora-Brown had 14 points and 16 rebounds for the Owls (10-16, 5-8).

GONZAGA 73 LOYOLA MARYMOUNT 60

Rui Hachimura scored 22 points, and Brandon Clark had 17 points and 12 rebounds as the No. 3 Bulldogs won at Los Angeles.
