Letitia Ruhl Codner, 87, of Houston, TX, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2019. Letitia was born Dec. 2, 1931, to

parents Josephine and James Ruhl. She attended St. Mary’s School and graduated high school from St.

Agnes Academy, afterwards attending Marymount College in Tarrytown, N.Y., and graduating from the

University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics, and later a Master of Science

Degree in Educationa­l Administra­tion with MidManagem­ent certificat­ion. Her teaching career began

with the Houston Independen­t School District at Port Houston Elementary School. She then accepted an offer from Texaco to teach in the American school in Anaco, Venezuela, an oil producing area. It was in Anaco that she met and married husband Henry (Hank) Codner. Hank and Letitia lived in Caracas, Venezuela, before moving to Bogota, Colombia, where they welcomed sons James and Robert. In 1963 the family moved to Houston and welcomed daughter Christina.

Letitia resumed her career as an educator with the Houston ISD. Highlights of the career she loved so much include Principal, Lanier Middle School, and Executive Director of the Northwest District, a position she held until her retirement.

Letitia is survived by her son, Robert Codner, Austin, TX; daughter and son-in-law Christina and Doug Harrison, Katy, TX; two grandchild­ren Kelly and Jack Harrison; sisters Cynthia Allen, Lafayette, LA; Jo Frances Ruhl, Fair Oaks Ranch, TX; and Andrea Ruhl, San Antonio, TX. Letitia is preceded in death by her parents James and Josephine Ruhl, her husband, Hank Codner, and her son, James Codner.

Letitia was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. The Charity Guild of Catholic Women, and the Museum of Fine Arts Houston.

She was proud to be chosen and serve as a Grand Juror on the Harris County District Court’s Grand Jury. The family thanks caregivers Josephine and Mercy Sule, and Rev. Ben Flanigan for their loving care and spiritual friendship.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and a funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX. Private family internment following reception.
