Fort Bend student facing explosives charges

A 17-year-old Fort Bend ISD student was arrested on felony charges after he allegedly told high school classmates that he was capable of making bombs that could “shred people apart,” authorities said.

Maximillion Young, 17, was arrested May 15 and charged with possession of explosive components. His bond was set at $25,000.

The Clements High School student is accused of possessing several components of an explosive weapon, including potassium nitrate, charcoal and sulfur. He allegedly intended to use the components to build bombs and explosives, court records show.

Authorities said that on May 9, Young allegedly told a pair of students at the school he knew how to make bombs and his own gun powder. The teen also said he had plans to sell explosives and knew how to use shrapnel in bombs that at high speeds could “shred people apart,” according to court documents.

Court documents allege Young told the students he was a sociopath and “likes to see things go boom.” When the students asked Young what he would do with the bombs, he implied he could use them at his high school because his peers “are going nowhere in life and they are not worth it,” according to court documents.

A warrant was issued to search Young’s Sugar Land home May 9. Police found and confiscated several materials that Young had used to create small explosions in his driveway.

FBI officials with the Houston Bomb Tech Division confirmed the items confiscated from Young’s home could be used to make a pipe bomb, court records show.

During a second search of Young’s home, on May 13, police found an AR-15 style firearm, handgun, shotgun and two military-style ammunition boxes in the safe of a guest bedroom closet. More bomb-making materials were uncovered at the home, including two “energetic powders” deemed unsafe to store in the Fort Bend ISD Police Department’s property room, court records show.

In a letter sent to parents Wednesday, Clements High School Principal David Yaffie said the school’s investigation into this situation is ongoing and commended students for coming forward.
