Music and comedy take center stage at The Grand
With a diverse lineup that promises to entertain, The Grand 1894 Opera House features a mix of music and laughter this summer season.
Jeanne Robertson comes back to The Grand with The Rocking Humor Tour at 8 p.m., Friday, June 28 and 4 p.m., Saturday, June 29. A dynamic septuagenarian and former Miss North Carolina, Robertson charms her audiences with humorous observations about life around her, and is known for her vivacious personality and infectious sense of humor. Her family friendly and engaging brand of comedy resonates with audiences of all ages.
At 8 p.m., Friday, July 5, singer/songwriters Robert Earl Keen and Tyler Childers will take the stage together for the first time at The Grand. Keen has long been lauded for his “mixed Texas twang, folk wit and storytelling lyrics,” while Childers has been hailed as a breakout star who has made a name for himself in the Americana genre. According to Entertainment Weekly, Americana has enjoyed a wonderful increase in its profile in recent years thanks in part to Childers.
On July 12-14, Menopause, The Musical returns to The Grand for four hilarious performances. Show times are 8 p.m., Friday, July 12; 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., Saturday, July 13; and 3 p.m., Sunday, July 14. The show takes hot flashes, mood swings, and memory loss and transforms them into a universally praised, international sensation.
“This hilarious musical parody, set to classic tunes from the 60s, 70s and 80s, is about four women who meet at a lingerie sale — with nothing in common but menopause,” said Robyn Bushong, publicist for The Grand. “You won’t want to miss this incredibly funny production where the female cast pokes fun at their wrinkles, night sweats and chocolate binges.”
Closing out the summer season at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, Jaston Williams is also back at The Grand for his annual summer outing and latest production, Don ’t Blame the Car! Recognized nationally as the co-author, co-star and co-producer of the four award-winning plays in the Greater Tuna series, Williams’ latest production is sure to leave audiences in stitches, Bushong said.
