Retailers that have lost way too much traffic to online sales have figured this out. They’re calling it “experiential retail.” That’s our cover story by retail reporter Paul Takahashi in our latest edition.
I don’t know what has gotten into people in this pathologically narcissistic social media epoch, but for now, this is what our world has come to, and this is where some brick-and-mortar retailers are turning for salvation.

Takahashi’s story made me realize that all these weeks I’ve been assigning and editing Texas Inc. stories, I’ve been building a selfie wall of my own. I tape each edition to a white board to spark creativity, keep track of what we’re writing and make sure that the big bosses here know how hard we’re working.
I had no idea it was a selfie wall. And I sure didn’t know that building a selfie wall could be a business. I decided to try it out.
Turns out, it’s perfect for my Facebook page — and it only cost me a little cellophane tape and 28 weeks worth of work putting out these marvelous editions. (This is the 29th edition of Texas Inc. for those of you loyal readers and collectors who are counting.)
See, that’s what’s great about business. If you see an idea that is working, and the barriers to entry are low enough, you knock it off yourself. If you notice a trend, and you’re even the slightest bit creative, you can take it for a ride.
Right now I’m thinking “experiential newspapers.” I’ve got big plans in the works.
