A’s roll Mariners, win 9th straight

OAKLAND, Calif. — Matt Chapman homered for the second consecutiv­e day, Josh Phegley also went deep and had three RBIs, and the streaking Oakland Athletics won their ninth straight, beating Seattle 7-1 to complete a three-game sweep.

Brett Anderson allowed one run in 61⁄3 innings to win after being forced out of his previous start with a cervical strain. Anderson (6-3) struck out four and walked four, but got the Mariners to hit into double plays in three straight innings.

Seattle's Jay Bruce hit his 300th career double in the second and his 299th homer in the seventh. Bruce needs one home run to become the eighth active player with 300 doubles and 300 homers.

DODGERS 11, PIRATES 7: Justin Turner had five hits after taking a day off, Joc Pederson homered during a six-run sixth inning that featured consecutiv­e basesloade­d plunkings, and Los Angeles won at Pittsburgh to complete a three-game sweep.

ROYALS 8, YANKEES 7 (10): Whit Merrifield got a fortunate hop on an RBI single in the 10th, and Kansas City got the home win despite blowing a six-run lead.

BREWERS 9, PHILLIES 1: Brandon Woodruff allowed a solo homer in an otherwise perfect eight innings, Christian Yelich hit his NL-leading 21st home run, and host Milwaukee connected five times against Philly.

DIAMONDBAC­KS 6, GIANTS 2: Ketel Marte homered for the third time in three games, and Arizona tied a franchise record for scoring in a three-game series.

RAYS 6, INDIANS 3: Austin Meadows led off the game with a home run and was 4-for-4 with three RBIs, leading visiting Tampa Bay over reeling Cleveland.

TWINS 7, WHITE SOX 0: Jake Odorizzi permitted one hit in 51⁄3 scoreless innings as Minnesota completed a sweep of visiting Chicago.

REDS 10, CUBS 2: Nick Senzel had three hits, scored four times and cut down a runner at the plate, helping Tanner Roark and Cincinnati win at Chicago.

METS 4, TIGERS 3: Zack Wheeler pitched into the eighth inning, and host New York kept up a run of comebacks by winning its sixth game in seven.

NATIONALS 9, MARLINS 6: Howie Kendrick hit his eighth homer, drove in three runs and finished with three hits as Washington beat visiting Miami.

ROCKIES 8, ORIOLES 7: Nolan Arenado homered for the third straight game, and Colorado scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to rally past visiting Baltimore.

ANGELS 7, RANGERS 6: Mike Trout and Kole Calhoun scored on wild pitches in a six-run seventh inning that gave host Los Angeles a comeback win.

BRAVES 4, CARDINALS 3 (10): Brian McCann drew a based-loaded walk in the top of the 10th inning to cap visiting Atlanta’s rally past St. Louis.
