Yankees slip past Rays in 11 innings

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Aaron Judge hit his second homer of the game leading off the 11th inning, Brett Gardner added a three-run shot, and the New York Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays 8-4 on Friday night.

Judge connected on the first pitch from Ryne Stanek to give him nine career multihomer games. The big slugger also went deep in the first against two-way player Brendan McKay as New York extended its AL East lead over Tampa Bay to a season-high 8½ games.

Aaron Hicks tied it in the eighth with a homer for the Yankees, who used a five-run 10th to beat the Rays 8-4 on Thursday in the opener of a four-game series.

PHILLIES 7, METS 2: Jay Bruce hit a go-ahead single in the ninth inning off closer Edwin Diaz, and Philadelph­ia won at New York. Nine days after blowing a save in Philadelph­ia, Diaz allowed J.T. Realmuto’s double and Bruce’s RBI single to start the ninth, which snapped a 2-all tie. The Phillies poured it on after that, batting around and scoring five runs against Diaz, Jeurys Familia and Luis Avilan.

BREWERS 7, PIRATES 6: Lorenzo Cain delivered a go-ahead RBI single off Pittsburgh closer Felipe Vazquez in the top of the 10th inning, and Milwaukee recovered after blowing a five-run lead in the ninth to edge the host Pirates and snap a three-game skid.

ORIOLES 4, BLUE JAYS 1: Chris Davis homered and had three RBIs, Dylan Bundy pitched 62⁄3 innings of one-run ball, and Baltimore won at Toronto.

DIAMONDBAC­KS 8, ROCKIES 0: Christian Walker hit two homers and drove in a career-high five runs, leading Arizona to a win over visiting Colorado.

ROYALS 7, INDIANS 4: Adalberto Mondesi hit a goahead single in the 11th, and Kansas City snapped a four-game losing streak by beating host Washington.

RED SOX 9, TIGERS 6: Xander Bogaerts and Rafael Devers, and Eduardo Rodriguez won for the fifth time in his last eight starts as Boston won at Detroit in a game delayed more than two hours because of rain.

ATHLETICS 5, MARINERS 2: Franklin Barreto hit his first homer of the season, Robbie Grossman hit a tworun double in the ninth, and Oakland won at Seattle.

BRAVES 1, MARLINS 0: Brian McCann hit a basesloade­d single with one out in the ninth inning to lift host Atlanta to a victory over Miami.

PADRES 3, DODGERS 2: Hunter Renfroe hit a tiebreakin­g homer in the eighth, Eric Lauer threw two strikes in the midst of a 6.9-magnitude earthquake that rattled the stadium, and San Diego edged host Los Angeles.

TWINS 15, RANGERS 6: All-Star shortstop Jorge Polanco homered on his 26th birthday, Martin Perez held his former team scoreless until the seventh inning, and Minnesota routed visiting Texas.

CARDINALS 9, GIANTS 4: Paul Goldschmid­t, Dexter Fowler and Jose Martinez each homered, and St. Louis routed host San Francisco.
