Astros (73-40) update: Cole, the American League’s Pitcher of the Month in June and July, has won 12 of his last 13 decisions. His 216 strikeouts lead the majors, and his 1.00 WHIP is tied for sixth. …In six games since he moved into the cleanup hole, Alex Bregman is hitting .391 (9-for-23) with two doubles, a triple, a home run and four RBIs. … Yordan Alvarez has 41 RBIs in his first 41 major league games. … With eight leadoff home runs, George Springer is one shy of the singleseason club record he set in 2017. His 32 career leadoff homers put him sixth in AL history, one shy of Paul Molitor. … The Astros are 8-8 in interleague play this season and after this series have two games left at Milwaukee on Sept. 2-3.

Rockies (52-60) update: Colorado was 44-40 when it began a series with the Astros at Coors Field on July 2. The Rockies have gone 8-20 since (including a two-game sweep by the Astros), playing themselves out of wild-card contention. … Third baseman Nolan Arenado, the National League’s home run champ in three of the last four seasons, is unlikely to win the crown this year. He hit only two in July while batting .247 but has matched that total in August, giving him 24 for the season, 15 shy of Milwaukee’s Christian Yelich. Arenado’s 83 RBIs rank seventh in the NL. … Shortstop Trevor Story, who on Sunday joined Hall of Famers Mike Schmidt and Rogers Hornsby as the only players to homer in five consecutive games against the Giants, is slashing .307/.376/.663 at home but only .258/.319/.455 on the road. … In his last start Wednesday, Marquez threw six scoreless innings against the Dodgers before leaving because of full-body cramping.
