Mets rally to win 7th straight game
NEW YORK — Todd Frazier clobbered a tying, three-run homer and Michael Conforto then lined a game-ending single as the New York Mets stormed back in the ninth inning to stun the Washington Nationals 7-6 on Friday night for their seventh straight win.
Trailing 6-3, the Mets rallied against closer Sean Doolittle to win for the 14th time in 15 games at pulsating Citi Field. The Nationals hold the top spot in the NL wild-card race, the Mets are 1½ games behind them.
BRAVES 8, MARLINS 4: Ronald Acuna Jr. hit a pair of two-run homers, and Julio Teheran extended his scoreless streak against Miami this season to 24 innings before allowing a run in the seventh to help visiting Atlanta win. Acuna homered for the fourth game in a row in the fifth inning, and homered again in the ninth to increase his season total to 32. Ozzie Albies went 4-for-5 and hit his 18th homer.
REDS 5, CUBS 2: Trevor Bauer fanned 11 batters in his Reds home debut, and Aristides Aquino homered again as Yasiel Puig’s replacement, leading host Cincinnati to a victory over Chicago.
BLUE JAYS 8, YANKEES 2: Teoscar Hernandez homered twice, Danny Jansen hit a three-run blast, and Randal Grichuk added a two-run shot to help host Toronto end New York’s nine-game winning streak.
ATHLETICS 7, WHITE SOX 0: Mike Fiers tossed seven innings of three-hit ball to extend his career-best winning streak to nine games, leading Oakland to a victory at Chicago.
INDIANS 6, TWINS 2: Shane Bieber pitched into the eighth inning, Jose Ramirez had three hits, and Cleveland pulled into a tie in the American League Central with a victory at Minnesota.
RED SOX 16, ANGELS 4: J.D. Martinez homered twice and just missed hitting a third out of Fenway Park, and Boston routed Los Angeles.
TIGERS 5, ROYALS 2: Edwin Jackson pitched neatly into the seventh inning in his return to the Tigers, overcoming an inside-the-park home run to lead off the game and helping host Detroit beating Kansas City.
CARDINALS 6, PIRATES 2: Paul Goldschmidt hit a tiebreaking single in the eighth inning, Marcell Ozuna followed with a two-run homer, and host St. Louis beat Pittsburgh.
BREWERS 6, RANGERS 5: Eric Thames hit a gameending homer to lift Milwaukee to a win over visiting Texas after Josh Hader blew a save opportunity for the fourth time this season.
PADRES 7, ROCKIES 1: Cal Quantrill threw seven shutout innings, Fernando Tatis Jr. drove in a pair of runs, and San Diego beat visiting Colorado.
PHILLIES 9, GIANTS 6: Bryce Harper hit a pair of homers, including a go-ahead, three-run shot in the seventh inning, and Philadelphia won at San Francisco.
RAYS 5, MARINERS 3: Tampa Bay broke a tie by scoring three runs in the top of the ninth inning and held on to win at Seattle.
