Scouting the Rockets: They averaged just 101.5 points in losing two games to the Bucks last season, 12.4 fewer than they averaged overall. … The Rockets averaged 125.7 points in the preseason and 55.5 3-point attempts, 10.1 more than their NBA record last season. … Guard James Harden, the NBA’s leading scorer the past two seasons and the league scoring and assists leader in the preseason, averaged 32.5 points against the Bucks last season but made just 39.3 percent of his shots, 28 percent of his 3-pointers.

Scouting the Bucks: They have not won three straight against the Rockets since March 1998 through March 2000. … The Bucks’ 60-22 record last season was the NBA’s best and third-best in franchise history. … The Bucks last season took the MVP (Giannis Antetokoun­mpo), Executive of the Year (general manager Jon Horst) and Coach of the Year (Mike Budenholze­r) while forward Khris Middleton was a first-time All-Star and guard Eric Bledsoe was first-team All-Defense.

Injury report: Rockets, guard Gerald Green (injured right foot), guard Michael Frazier (sprained right ankle) and center Nene (strained adductor) are out. Bucks, none.

By the numbers: 4. Times the winners of two of the previous three MVP awards have been teammates, with Russell Westbrook and James Harden joining Bob Cousy and Bill Russell with the Celtics, Julius Erving and Moses Malone with the Celtics and Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry with the Warriors.
