Joseph to reunite with Vrabel in Tennessee

For nine years, veteran cornerback Johnathan Joseph provided steady coverage on the field and wisdom in the Texans’ locker room.

Now, the 35-year-old has joined the Tennessee Titans, where he’ll play for former Texans defensive coordinato­r Mike Vrabel and secondary coach Anthony Midget.

Joseph signed a oneyear contract, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly.

One of the longestten­ured players in Texans franchise history, Joseph became an unrestrict­ed free agent when his $5.94 million contract expired. A two-time Pro Bowl selection, Joseph is a former Cincinnati Bengals firstround draft pick from South Carolina.

Joseph is the Texans’ all-time leader with 17 intercepti­ons, 118 passes defended, 410 intercepti­on return yards and four intercepti­ons returned for touchdowns.

In other news:

• The Texans aren’t picking up a $10.244 million fifth-year club option for veteran cornerback Gareon Conley, according to a league source not authorized to speak publicly.

However, Conley remains in the Texans’ plans, per sources, and the team is pleased with his play and how he fits into its locker room.

• Commission­er Roger Goodell has reduced his salary to $0 and other NFL employees will be taking pay cuts or furloughs due to the coronaviru­s pandemic.

Goodell, who makes upward of $30 million a year from salaries and bonuses, voluntaril­y had his salary decreased this month, a person familiar with the move told the Associated Press. The NFL has yet to announce the move publicly.

• Former Jacksonvil­le Jaguars linebacker Telvin Smith was arrested and later released from jail on a charge of having sexual activity with a minor.

The 29-year-old Smith was booked into the Jacksonvil­le (Fla.) Sheriff ’s Office Jail and was being held on a $50,003 bond.

Citing an anonymous law enforcemen­t source, ESPN reported Smith is accused of having sex with a 17year-old girl multiple times, both at his home and in his vehicle, last August and September.

• A York (S.C.) County sheriff ’s deputy drew his gun on Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Bashaud Breeland, who is charged with resisting arrest among other offenses after he was seen smoking marijuana.

According to an incident report, Breeland, 28, a starter for the Chiefs, faces a total of five charges, including resisting arrest and drug possession. He was released on $2,362.50 bond after spending more than nine hours in jail.
