Houston Food Bank: Demand for food assistance continues to grow and the Houston Food Bank is distributing 1 million pounds of food per day to people in need. HFB needs volunteers who can work shifts from 8 a.m.-noon, 1-4 p.m. or 6-9 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Sign up at www.houstonfoodbank.org/ volunteernow. Monetary donations are also needed, and supermarket shoppers can donate items they purchase in stores in Red Barrels in those stores. For food distribution sites go to www.houstonfoodbank.org/ covid19/ or call the help line at 832-369-9390.

Volunteer Houston: Volunteer Houston and Interfaith Ministries are working with Gallery Furniture and Hilton Americas-Houston to get people to make and donate cloth masks that will be distributed to people in vulnerable communities. They ask that people use guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at cdc.gov/coronavirus and take (in a plastic bag) to a dropoff location (find a list at volunteerhou.org) by May 13.
