Rocker Perez to debut quarantine video
Chris Perez has forged a unique path in the last few years. The long-haired rocker, who was married to Selena, has continued to perform live, released his own line of hot sauce and interacts regularly with fans on social media.
The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has kept him offstage, but Perez is staying busy. His band released the original song “Just Say Goodbye” in April. And he has continued recording at home.
Perez joins me at 11 a.m. Tuesday for a live Q&A on the Houston Chronicle’s Instagram account. We’ll talk about music, of course, life in lockdown and he’ll answer fan questions. This is a rare opportunity, so set a reminder.
There’s more. We’ll follow that up with the world premiere of his band’s quarantine music video at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday on the “Preview from the Houston Chronicle” Facebook page.
The song is a cover of “Doom and Gloom,” a 2012 tune from The Rolling Stones. The Chris Perez Band features singer John Garza and former Selena keyboardist Joe Ojeda, the same guys who helped Perez earn a Grammy for 1999 album “Resurrection” (which was recently added to streaming platforms).
Coincidentally, the 1997 “Selena” movie starring Jennifer Lopez and Jon Seda will be issued on Blu-ray Tuesday for the first time with extras. Perez has lots of memories that he can likely talk about.

• Rapper Don Toliver and Sheila Jackson Lee provide lunch for frontline workers
Talk about an unlikely duo.
Houston rapper Don Toliver, alongside Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, provided 300 prepared lunches for front-line workers at United Memorial Medical Center. They partnered Tuesday with Lost & Found restaurant in Midtown.
“I am grateful that recording artist Don Toliver visited Houston to recognize these selfless medical providers,” Mayor Sylvester
Turner said in a statement. “We are in this fight together, and we cannot win the fight without compassionate people on the front lines and without caring benefactors like Don Toliver who realize that these medical providers are saving lives.”
Toliver, a protege of Travis Scott, released debut album “Heaven or Hell” in March. He has also collaborated with Eminem, Migos and Wiz Khalifa.
