Retailers reopening as restrictions loosen

- From staff reports

More retailers in the Houston area have opened their doors, including Nordstrom, Burlington and Gap stores.

The stores have been closed since March, when the coronavirus began to spread and stay-at-home orders were issued. Gov. Greg Abbott issued an order lifting those regulations for most retail operations effective May 1.

Nordstrom said the retailer would reopen 26 stores across Texas, including its Nordstrom store at the Galleria, as well as three Nordstrom Rack stores at Post Oak Center, Willowbrook Mall and Bunker Hill. Burlington, which has more than 20 stores in the Houston area, announced a Friday reopening.

Gap plans to open some 800 stores by the end of the month, starting with several in Texas, the company said in a news release last week. It has already opened Athleta, Gap and Banana Republic stores at Town and Country Village in Houston; the Banana Republic Factory Store and Old Navy at Premium Outlets in Cypress; the Intermix store at River Oaks District-Houston; and Old Navy stores at Post Oak, Webster and Shenandoah.
