Security guard charged with murder

-

A security guard has been charged with murder after fatally shooting a man who assaulted him early Friday morning in a Spring parking lot, the Montgomery County Sheriff ’s Office said.

Ronald Wayne Schubert, a 63-year-old licensed security guard from Houston, was taken into custody after an investigation by the sheriff ’s office.

A little before 5 a.m. Friday in the 120 block of Sawdust Road, Schubert fired his gun at an unidentified man who charged at him, knocked him down and struck him multiple times, according to the sheriff ’s office.

According to the sheriff ’s office, Schubert fired at the man, who was running away after a sheriff ’s deputy fired his stun gun at him.

The man was seen running from Sawdust Road, screaming and flailing his arms about and “exhibiting an abnormal behavior.”

A deputy tried to stop the man to conduct a welfare check, but orders from the deputy went unacknowledged, according to the sheriff ’s office.

Then the man dropped something, later revealed to be a cellphone, and continued running as the deputy pursued him in his patrol car and trained the vehicle’s spotlight on him to no avail.

The sheriff ’s office said Schubert, who was working the area, then stepped from his vehicle and motioned for the man to stop. The as-yet unidentified man then charged at Schubert, who shot him, according to the sheriff ’s office.

Schubert was working security for the Enforce Security Services Inc., the sheriff ’s office said.

The sheriff ’s office, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Rangers are investigating the case.
