Surging Rays beat Yanks again

NEW YORK — Pinch-hitter Mike Brosseau singled home the tie-breaking run in the eighth inning and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the New York Yankees 4-2.

The Rays have won four straight and 10 of 11 to move within a half-game of the AL East-leading Yankees.

PADRES 6, RANGERS 3 (10): Manny Machado’s grand slam with one out in the bottom of the tenth inning lifted San Diego over visiting Texas.

ATHLETICS 4, DIAMONDBAC­KS 1: Jesus Luzardo pitched 61⁄3 scoreless innings to lead host Oakland.

CARDINALS, CUBS SPLIT: David Bote hit a two-run single in the seventh and final inning, and host Chicago salvaged a split of a doublehead­er with St. Louis with a 4-2 victory. In the opener, Matt Carpenter belted a first-inning grand slam and the Cardinals won 9-3.

RED SOX 9, PHILLIES 3: Rafael Devers homered and drove in three runs as host Boston ended a ninegame losing streak

INDIANS 6, PIRATES 1: Aaron Civale pitched the first complete game of his career as Cleveland pushed its winning streak to five with a win at Pittsburgh.

REDS SPLIT WITH ROYALS: Trevor Bauer pitched a one-hitter as the Reds earned a split of a doublehead­er at Kansas City with a 5-0 victory. Brad Keller pitched hitless ball into the sixth inning of the opener as the Royals won 4-0.

METS 5, MARLINS 3: Michael Conforto hit a tworun homer in the ninth inning, and New York won at Miami.

MARINERS 6, DODGERS 4: Austin Nola homered and drove in four runs as Seattle won at home.

GIANTS 7, ANGELS 2: Wilmer Flores homered and drove in four runs to lead host San Francisco.

BREWERS 9, TWINS 3: Avisail Garcia homered and drove in four runs as Milwaukee cruised at Minnesota.

BLUE JAYS 5, ORIOLES 2: Randal Grichuk hit two home runs, and Toronto completed a three-game sweep at Baltimore.

WHITE SOX 5, TIGERS 3: Edwin Encarnacio­n hit a pair of home runs to lead host Chicago.
