Houston marks Latin Restaurant Weeks, Sept. 20 to Oct. 4

Houston’s second annual Latin Restaurant Weeks, shining a spotlight on the city’s Latin-owned restaurant­s, bakeries, caterers and bartenders, kicks off Sept. 20.

About two dozen businesses are participat­ing in the two-week event, which runs through Oct. 4, with special menus prices between $15 and $50. A portion of proceeds will benefit Second Servings of Houston, a food rescue organizati­on, to support meals in underserve­d Hispanic communitie­s.

Participat­ing restaurant­s offering special prix fixe meals and menu options include Andes Café, Arepa Xpress, Café Piquet, Chick Houz, Club Pablo Katy, El Baibeno, Kokai Sushi, La Calle Tacos, La Fisheria, La Pupusa Loca, La Vina Cuban, Latin Bites, Los Ranchitos, Maison Pucha Bistro, The Original Marini’s Empanada House, Sweets by Belen, Tropical’s Restaurant, Tony’s Tex-Mex, and all nine locations of Torilleria­s La Reyna.

In addition, there are two virtual events. On Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. chef Efrain Villareal Jr. of Tony’s Tex-Mex in Cypress will host a live cooking demonstrat­ion along with lifestyle blogger Mely Cruz (@AllThingsM­ely). There is no charge for the event sponsored by Herradura Tequila.

On Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. bartender Patrick Abalos of Not Too Sweet Ventures and managing partner of Night Shift bar will host a live cocktail demonstrat­ion with lifestyle blogger Patty Artiga (@PattyTells­All). There is no charge for the event sponsored by Herradura Tequila.

Latin Restaurant Weeks meals will be available for dine-in, takeout or delivery. According to event organizers, Houston represents the third largest Hispanic population in the United States; 36 percent of Houston is of Hispanic descent.
