Padres’ comeback clinches playoffs

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Padres are returning to the playoffs for the first time in 14 years after beating the Seattle Mariners 7-4 Sunday with a three-run rally in the 11th inning that included a go-ahead double by newcomer Mitch Moreland.

RANGERS 7, ANGELS 2: Kyle Cody earned his first major league win as Texas hit a season-high five home runs to power past the Los Angeles on the road.

RED SOX 10, YANKEES 2: Tanner Houck took a no-hitter into the sixth inning of his second major league start and Michael Chavis had a huge day at the plate as Boston halted two long streaks with a home win over New York.

BLUE JAYS 6, PHILLIES 3: Teoscar Hernandez hit a two-run homer and Taijuan Walker tossed six sharp innings to help Toronto snap a six-game losing streak with a victory over Philadelph­ia on the road.

GIANTS 14, ATHLETICS 2: Brandon Crawford hit a grand slam, Chadwick Tromp and Darin Ruf added two-run homers, and San Francisco prevented hosting Oakland from clinching the AL West title.

BREWERS 5, ROYALS 3: Daniel Vogelbach belted a pair of homers and drove in all five runs as Milwaukee beat Kansas City at home to sweep the three-game interleagu­e matchup.

REDS 7, WHITE SOX 3: Mike Moustakas hit a two-run single as Cincinnati scored five times in the fourth inning on just one hit, and the Reds took advantage of wild Chicago pitching for a home win.

NATIONALS, MARLINS SPLIT: Kurt Suzuki homered and doubled to bounce back from a game-ending strikeout in the opener, and visiting Washington routed the playoffcon­tending Miami 15-0 Sunday to split a doublehead­er. In the opener, Marlins reliever Brandon Kintzler fanned Suzuki with the bases loaded to preserve a 2-1 win.

ORIOLES 2, RAYS 1: John Means struck out a career-high 12 in a pitching duel with Tampa Bay lefty Ryan Yarbrough, and Baltimore stalled the Rays’ push toward the AL East title with a victory at home.

INDIANS 7, TIGERS 4: Carlos Carrasco allowed one hit in seven scoreless innings, and Jose Ramirez homered twice to lift Cleveland to a win over Detroit on the road.

BRAVES 7, METS 0: Kyle Wright allowed only one hit in the best start of his big league career, pitching into the seventh inning to lead visiting Atlanta past New York.

ROCKIES 6, DODGERS 3: Antonio Senzatela pitched efficientl­y into the seventh inning as hosting Colorado avoided a Los Angeles sweep with a win and delayed the Dodgers from clinching their eighth straight NL West title.

CARDINALS 2, PIRATES 1: Yadier Molina hit a two-run homer and Jack Flaherty struck out 11 as St. Louis kept their hold on a postseason spot with a road victory over Pittsburgh.

TWINS 4, CUBS 0: Max Kepler homered, Jose Berrios threw six shutout innings to outduel Yu Darvish and Minnesota beat Chicago on the road.
