Glidden names ‘Aqua Fiesta’ its 2021Accent Color of the Year.
Glidden paint company joins other paint and color forecast announcements with its 2021 Accent Color of the Year: “Aqua Fiesta.”
The refreshing aquamarine follows Glidden’s 2020 pick of “Whirlwind” as a “color to love for years and years” instead of an annual top pick. “Whirlwind” is a soft gray with purple undertones.
“Aqua Fiesta,” part of the blue-green family, is similar to Benjamin Moore’ recent pick of “Aegean Teal,” a darker bluegreen than “Aqua Fiesta,” as its own 2021 Color of the Year.
“No one could have predicted how upsetting 2020 would have turned out to be,” said Amy Donato, Glidden paint’s color whisperer. “Last year, we already knew that Whirlwind would be a staple color for 2020 and beyond, and the anxiety of this year has only made people crave this no-frills gray even more. We have gone one step further to help you stop procrasti-painting by unveiling ‘Aqua Fiesta’ as the go-to accent color. Now, it’s time to put down that homemade banana bread and pick up a paint brush.”
While “Aqua Fiesta” is touted by Glidden as a color for any room, its designation as an accent color likely delegates it to a color choice for an accent wall, wainscoting or other paneling — or even to be used in home furnishings accent pieces, such as bedding, lamps or chairs.
Other Color of the Year picks include Sherwin-Williams’ “Urbane Bronze,” a deeply saturated bronzy-brown, and PPG’s Palette of the year: “Transcend” (beige with pink undertones), “Misty Aqua” (watercolor blue) and “Big Cypress” (rusty terracotta).
While Color of the Year choices sometimes seem offbeat or bold, such as Pantone’s choice of “Ultra Violet” in 2018 or “Radiant Orchid” in 2014, in recent years, they’ve been more about comfort, serenity and getting in touch with nature.
For 2020, Pantone, SherwinWilliams and PPG all chose a shade of dark blue with “Classic Blue,” “Naval” and “Chinese Porcelain,” respectively.
