HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Boys
Dylan Goffney, Bridgeland
Notable: The SMU commitment had 14 catches for 204 yards and three touchdowns in Bridgeland’s 47-44 four-overtime victory over Dekaney in the area playoffs. The performance included the game-winning 24-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown. Bridgeland meets Rockwall-Heath in the regional semifinals on Saturday.
Other nominees
Bishop Davenport, Spring: The junior quarterback completed 24 of 41 passes for 364 yards and three touchdowns in a 31-14 area round victory over
Klein Oak.
Jakolby Longino, Hightower: The senior completed 13 of 20 passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns in a 44-14 area round victory over Pflugerville Hendrickson.
David Smith, Clear Falls: The sophomore rushed for 188 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries in Clear Falls’ 53-36 playoff victory. Smith also had the game-winning touchdown — a 19-yard run with 20 seconds remaining — in a bi-district victory over Strake Jesuit two weeks ago. Clear Falls is in the regional semifinals for the first time.
Girls
Ashlyn Ryall, Friendswood
Notable: Friendswood is on a nine-game winning streak, with Ryall scoring 28 points with three assists, four rebounds and four steals against Goose Creek Memorial and 19 points with four rebounds and six steals against La Porte. The Friends University commitment averages 17.8 points in district play.
Other nominees Katelyn Kabrich, Tomball Memorial: Tomball Memorial split a pair of games last week with a victory over Klein and a loss to Oak Ridge, but Kabrich was impressive in both. She scored 16 points with seven rebounds against Klein and 20 points with 12 rebounds against Oak Ridge.
Nikki Petrakovitz, Oak Ridge: Oak Ridge has won three consecutive games, the latest a 54-50 victory over Seven Lakes in which Petrakovitz led the way with 18 points.
Bre’yon White, Shadow Creek: White posted 17 points and 11 rebounds to open district play in a 45-28 victory over Pearland.
