Police on Sunday arrested an Arkansas man on suspicion of killing his wife during a drug-fueled attack at an Alief-area home, according to police and court records.

Brian Marshall, 36, was charged Monday with murder in the shooting death of his wife, Takela Marshall, 34, around 2 p.m. in the Drive. He hid in a bedroom closet and shot her when she opened the door, prosecutors said.

The victim’s mother grabbed Marshall and kept him there “with both hands because he was trying to get away,” according to police. The mother’s boyfriend called policewhile trying to help Marshall’s wife, who was shot at least once in the face, court records state. He wrested the gun away from Marshall and stashed it in the garage.

Police found Take la Marshall mortal ly wounded, court records state. Shewas taken to a hospital, where she died.

Police arrested Marshall and he admitted to smoking Kush — a strain of cannabis — and taking Xanax.

The wife’s sister was also home at the time of the shooting and told officers that earlier Marshall had gone outside in the nude and tried crawling onto a couch where she had been sleeping, prosecutors said in a probable cause hear-ing

shall is from Pine Bluff, Ark., and has several convictions — charges including kidnapping, battery, and robbery — in Jefferson County cases. He arrived in Houston over the weekend, prosecutors said in bail paperwork. A public defender said that he had been working a construction job in Texas.

Prosecutors opposed a personal bond — noting that he is out on bail for an Arkansas-based charge —and expressed worry that he was a flight risk.

“He arrived here just a day ago and has been staying at a hotel because his Houston-area family told him he is notw elcome to stay with them,” prosecutors wrote, also requesting that Marshall be held on a bond of $250,000. The hearing officer, Jim Callan, agreed to that amount, citing “convincing evidence” that he is a flight risk and community threat.

Police arrested Marshall before in Houston in 2019 when he was wanted for an out-of-state parole violation.
