TSU men, women called off

The Texas Southern men’s and women’s basketball games at Mississipp­i Valley State that were scheduled for Monday were postponed, according to a release on the TSU athletics website.

The men’s game had been scheduled for 7:30 p.m., and the women’s game was to start at 5 p.m.

No make-up date has been released yet. Both teams’ next scheduled game is against Alabama State on Saturday at H&PE Arena.

PRAIRIE VIEW A&M 73 ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF 56

Jeremiah Gambrell Jr. had a career-high 23 points as the Panthers beat the host Golden Lions.

D’Rell Roberts had 12 points for Prairie View (5-4, 4-0 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference), which earned its fourth consecutiv­e win. Lenell Henry added 10 points and 12 rebounds, and Cam Mack had nine assists.

Jalen Lynn had 13 points for Arkansas-Pine Bluff (3-12, 2-4). Joshuwan Johnson added 12 points. Shaun Doss Jr. had 10 points.

NO. 11 WEST VIRGINIA 88 NO. 10 TEXAS TECH 87

Miles McBride hit a jumper with six seconds left to lift the host Mountainee­rs to a thrilling win over the Red Raiders.

McBride led West Virginia (11-4, 4-3 Big 12) with a season-high 24 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Derek Culver, Taz Sherman and Jordan McCabe added 10 points, and and Culver had nine rebounds.

All five West Virginia starters finished with double-figure scoring in a game that was tied 39-39 at half before Texas Tech took a 12-point lead with about seven minutes left.

Mac McClung led Texas Tech (11-5, 4-4) with a season-high 30 points and missed what would have been a game-winning shot at the buzzer. Terrence Shannon Jr. added 15 points off the bench.

NO. 8 VIRGINIA 81 SYRACUSE 58

Sam Hauser hit seven of his team’s 14 3-pointers and the Cavaliers cruised to a victory against the Orange.

Hauser hit five 3s before halftime and finished with 21 points for Virginia (11-2, 7-0 Atlantic Coast Conference).

With Jay Huff adding a career-high 21 points to go along with 12 rebounds and Trey Murphy III making four 3s on his way to 16 points, the Cavaliers finished 14-of-31 from deep. It was the seventh consecutiv­e victory for the 2019 national champions.

Quincy Guerrier led Syracuse (9-5, 3-4) with 15 points, and Alan Griffin had 13. Syracuse was 5 for 24 from 3-point territory and just 22 of 59 overall.

Syracuse pulled within 11 twice after halftime, the last at 49-38 on a 3-pointer by Robert Braswell with 12:52 to go. But Virginia followed with a 10-3 run.

Women NO. 14 OHIO STATE 88 NO. 7 MARYLAND 86

Madison Greene scored 24 points, Jacy Sheldon had 21 and the host Buckeyes beat the Terrapins.

Braxtin Miller scored 18 points and Dorka Juhasz had 16 rebounds as Ohio State (9-1, 5-1) handed Maryland (11-2, 7-1) its first conference loss of the season and snapped the Terps’ 24-game Big Ten winning streak going back to last January.

Ashley Owusu led Maryland with 33 points. Katie Benzan had 22.
