COVID forces A&M to postpone contest

COLLEGE STATION — Texas A&M’s scheduled home game against Vanderbilt on Wednesday night has been postponed because of multiple positive COVID-19 tests within the A&M program.

This is the second time this season A&M vs. Vanderbilt has been postponed. The first came on Jan. 20, when the Aggies’ scheduled contest at Vanderbilt was put off indefinite­ly because of multiple positive COVID-19 tests within the Commodores program.

The Aggies will “pause all activity,” according to a press release. They were next scheduled to play at Mississipp­i on Saturday. A&M is 8-7 overall and 2-6 in SEC play under secondyear coach Buzz Williams, and is coming off a 68-61 victory at

Kansas State last Saturday in the annual Big 12/SEC Challenge.

Devontae Shuler scored 15 points and fueled a second-half rally as the Rebels beat the visiting Volunteers for their first victory over a ranked team in more than two years.

Ole Miss (9-8, 4-6 SEC) rallied from an 11-point first-half deficit and then withstood a late challenge by Tennessee (12-4, 8-4) to stop a two-game skid.

Luka Garza scored 27 points to reach another milestone, and the Hawkeyes beat the visiting Spartans.

Garza, the nation’s leading scorer, became the second 2,000-point scorer in program history. Garza, who has 2,009 points, is 107 behind all-time leading scorer Roy Marble.

Jack Nunge added 12 points for Iowa (13-4, 7-3 Big Ten).

Taz Sherman hit two key free throws with 6.4 seconds remaining and finished with 18 points as the Mountainee­rs (12-5, 5-3 Big 12) held on to defeat the host Cyclones.

Eric Ayala made two free throws with three seconds left, and the host Terrapins (10-8, 4-7 Big Ten) scored the final six points to edge the Boilermake­rs (12-7, 7-5), ruining Purdue’s season debut in the Top 25.

Christian Braun hit four 3pointers and scored 18 points, half of them during an 18-3 charge midway through the second half, and the Jayhawks (12-6, 6-4 Big 12) rolled past the Wildcats in Lawrence, Kan.

NO. 19 WISCONSIN 72 PENN ST. 56

Jonathan Davis scored a career-high 17 points, and the host Badgers (14-5, 8-4 Big Ten) routed the visiting Nittany Lions.

NO. 12 ILLINOIS 75, INDIANA 71

Trent Frazier scored the Fighting Illini’s final 10 points in regulation, and Illinois (12-5, 8-3 Big Ten) gave up only one basket in overtime to outlast the host Hoosiers.
