An angel walked among us
R.I.P. Frank
Regarding “‘He was the perfect dog’: How Frank stole hearts in Danbury,” (A1, Feb. 4): Thank you for your article on Frank the Danbury dog. He truly was an angel walking among us. May he rest in peace. Bill Silkowski, Galveston
R.I.P. GOP
Regarding “Fellow Republicans, our party must evolve,” (A15, Feb. 3): I was pleased when Luke Orlando campaigned and was elected to Pearland’s City Council. I fervently believe that younger citizens should have a greater say in government than merely casting a ballot as they will benefit or suffer from policy decisions made today. Unlike politicians in their 70s, they are not constrained with attitudes developed decades ago.
Orlando’s editorial is a breath of fresh air. He is a shining light in a dark room. However, if he aspires to a career in politics, many of his opinions will not serve him well. If he is to be successful as a member of the party of panderers, he must emulate the likes of Ted Cruz, Lindsey Graham and Kevin McCarthy. If he desires an elected office on the statewide or national level, it will serve him well to hook his wagon to the rising stars of the Republican Party, Josh Hawley and Majorie Taylor Greene.
If he were to serve in an ethical and honorable manner as John McCain, Liz Chaney and Mitt Romney have done, he would be ostracized by the party. The Republican Party he envisions in his piece is dead. R.I.P. P. Crane, Conroe
Hats off to Harris County
Regarding “City plans website to schedule 2nd shots,” (A3, Feb. 2): I am happy to report that I was able to get my first vaccine at the Sheldon ISD Panther Stadium thanks to Harris County. The way they had it set up was perfectly organized. I had almost no wait and didn’t even have to get out of my car. The people were courteous and made certain that if I had an adverse reaction I would be taken care of. Hats off to Harris County for a very well run, efficient process. Evelyn Brennan, Huffman
Stimulus money
Regarding “Dems move forward on stimulus without GOP,” (A4, Feb. 4): My wife and I decided after the first stimulus checks we received we would not accept any more if it was offered. We ended up donating most all of it to those individuals and groups that truly needed it.
Let’s get serious, Joe Biden. We will vote Democratic, for only the second time in our lives, whether you send us $400 or $1,400 or better yet $0. That’s only because the Republicans can’t be trusted to nominate anyone we would vote for after apparently refusing to vote to convict what’s his name or to remove Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from any position of responsibility. Robert Mueller, Houston
