TSU-Jackson State game delayed again by storm

- From staff and wire reports

Tuesday’s scheduled SWAC men’s game between Texas Southern and Jackson State was postponed again because of hazardous weather conditions in the Jackson, Miss., area. The two teams will try to play at a later date.

TSU and Jackson State had hoped to play Tuesday after the game was pushed back a day from Monday because of inclement weather. TSU (7-7, 4-2) is riding a five-game winning streak, including four in the conference, and Jackson State (6-5, 6-0) shares first place in the league with Prairie View A&M.

TSU is scheduled to host Prairie View (7-4, 6-0) at 7 p.m. Thursday. The game initially set for Feb. 6 was postponed because of COVID-19 protocols.

Elsewhere, the Big 12 announced that No. 2 Baylor will resume the season Feb. 23 at home against Iowa State after a six-game hiatus that started because of COVID-19.

Saturday’s home game against Oklahoma State was postponed, but the conference didn’t say if that was over COVID-19 issues or the wintry weather affecting Texas.

Baylor hasn’t played since matching the best start in school history at 17-0 with an 83-69 win over No. 12 Texas on Feb. 2. If the current schedule holds, the Bears will go three weeks between games.

The West Virginia-Baylor women’s game scheduled for Wednesday in Waco also was postponed because of weather.
