Dorothy (Dottie) Louise Kirkland, of El Lago, Texas, passed away February 12, 2021.

She was born in Frosa, Texas on August 9, 1925 to Jessie V. and Vernon E. Bartee. She was married to Cecil F. Kirkland for 68 years.

Dorothy worked for Postal Telegraph, Western Union, McMahn Builders, Crawford Developmen­t, Coastal Oil Tool, Inc., and Navajo Fishing & Rental Tools, Inc. She was a member of Pearland Church of Christ and she had a passion for hard work, which was applied equally to her family and to her profession­s across multiple industries. Dottie was dependable and not a single soul would want for comfort when they were in her sights. She passed all these endearing qualities on to her children, grandchild­ren, and great-grandchild­ren; her legacy of moral insight, strong character, and unwavering faith will continue for a long time. Our family’s appreciati­on and love for Dottie will never fade.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil F. Kirkland; her son, Terry R. Kirkland; her mother, Jessie Bartee, and father, Vernon Bartee; her sister, Vena Bartee; her sister, Eleanor Vance, and her brother-in-law, John Vance; her sister Evelyn Johnson, and brother-in-law, John Johnson; and her sisterin-law, Carolyn Bartee.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Kirkland; her brother, Preston Bartee; her grandchild­ren, Misty and Troy Anderson, Tisha and Miro Holy, Mandy and Kevin Bowen, Kristin and Michael Foley, Kelly and Chris Scott; and her great-grandchild­ren, Brendan Baker, Landon Baker, Hayden Baker, Alexandria Anderson, Annabelle Anderson, Dylan Holy, Katie Holy, and Sasha Holy, Vena Bowen, Heidi Bowen, and William Scott.

In remembranc­e of Dottie Kirkland’s life, the family requests that any charitable donations be made to a local food bank, as she hated for anyone to experience hunger or to a favorite charity in her name.

Visitation will be held Sunday, February 21 from 4:00-7:00PM at Forest Park East Funeral Home located at 21620 Gulf Freeway Webster, Texas. A Celebratio­n of Dottie’s Life will be held Monday, February 22 at 2:00PM. Immediatel­y following she will be laid to rest at Forest Park East Cemetery.
