MARY WEBB MILLER
1935-2021
Mary Oliver Webb Miller was born August 25, 1935 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and passed away peacefully on February 25, 2021 in her home in the Buckingham senior living community in Houston, Texas.
Mary grew up in San Antonio where she was raised by her parents Olive Lyman (“Golly”) and Marshall (“Punk”) Webb. Mary was the youngest of three siblings including Ginny Payne and Lyman Webb who now live with their families in Dallas and San Antonio, respectively. Mary graduated from St. Mary’s Hall High School and Sweet Briar College in Virginia where she earned a degree in Government. After college, Mary worked at her father’s Marshall Webb company in San Antonio and was a 1957 Duchess in the Fiesta celebration.
Mary married Air Force officer Tom Miller in 1959. They raised two children Katherine and Tommy in Houston. Mary and Tom met on a blind date in San Antonio. Mary would only agree to the date if Tom was taller than her. The young couple were active members of The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Houston where they met many lifelong friends. Both Katherine and Tommy graduated from the University of Texas at Austin.
In 1986, Mary and Tom joined St. Martin’s Episcopal Church near their home in the Pine Shadows/Tanglewood neighborhood. Friends Ann and Mike Halverson introduced the couple to the church community where they became very active members. Mary was a member of the Altar Guild, Stewardship Committee and the Seekers Class. In 2018, Mary and Tom were honored by Reverend Russell Levenson with the Star Award which recognized their long term commitment to the church. To this day, St. Martin’s is the center of the Miller’s spiritual life. In 2017, the Miller’s moved into the Buckingham senior living community where they have formed many new and supportive friendships.
Mary is survived by Tom and their two children Katherine (and husband Will) and Tommy (and wife Erin) and five grandchildren Marshall, Caroline, Beck (Brown family), and Katita and Justin (Miller family). Tom looks forward to a celebration of Mary’s life with family and friends later this Spring – stay tuned.
