Stars stick to the classics on the Grammy red carpet.
The Grammy Awards, like the recent Golden Globes, gave us a chance to see stars dress up again after a year of pandemic stay-at-home attire.
Music’s biggest night is usually a wild card when it comes to the red carpet — with looks ranging from revealing to strange. But on Sunday, the virtual event featured music notables staying close to classic looks; there wasn’t anything too crazy, for the most part.
In the category of most figurehugging style was Beyoncé, who made an entrance — arriving just in time to accept the award for best rap performance with fellow Houstonian Megan Thee Stallion — in an off-the-shoulder black leather Schiaparelli minidress with fingernail-tipped gloves and long drop earrings. She made history Sunday as the most decorated female Grammy winner of all time.
Megan channeled a Hollywood starlet, albeit with ultra long nails, in a red-orange, strapless Dolce & Gabbana gown with long train and thigh-high slit. She was presented the best new artist Grammy by fellow Houstonian Lizzo, who wore a pale pink Balmain dress with a high-low ruffle hem.
Going against the classic trend was Doja Cat, who went for a daring look in a Roberto Cavalli gown with a plunging neckline and chartreuse feather skirt. Noah Cyrus chose a white column gown with a voluminous cape by Schiaparelli, a fave designer of Lady Gaga. And Phoebe Bridgers arrived in her signature glammed-up goth look, with a white sequinned skeleton suit by Thom Browne.
But that’s as wild as it got. Dua Lipa wore a sheer-crystal Versace butterfly dress with side cutouts that was a throwback to Christina Aguilera’s butterfly dress at the 2000 Grammys. Taylor Swift looked like an ode to spring in a long-sleeve minidress by Oscar de la Renta embellished with multicolored flowers, which social media dubbed “cottagecore.” Miranda Lambert’s Genny gown was embroidered with musical notes.
H.E.R. channeled a boho vibe with a burgundy velvet tunic and pants embellished with crystals from Dundas fall 2021 collection. Another great pantsuit look was worn by Ingrid Andress, who looked stunning in white Amani Prive with a crystal chain bodice.
Louis Vuitton made a big showing at the Grammys with looks worn by BTS, Chloe x Halle and Cynthia Erivo in a gorgeous sequinned gown that rivaled the one Regina King wore for the Golden Globes.
Wearing Gucci were host Trevor Noah in a classic black wool-mohair tux, Harry Styles in a mint-green faux fur boa and black leather suit and Billie Eilish in a Gucci rose-pink floral shirt with sequin tiger, with matching pants and mask. Finneas and Anderson .Paak also wore Gucci.
The Haim sisters — Alana, Danielle and Este— wore coordinating powder-blue looks by Prada.
Debi Nova opted for a pink strapless minidress with cascading train by Georges Chakra, while Jhene Aiko went big — in a glamorous Monsoori gown with yards and yards of pink tulle.
