Residents show excitement about post-vaccine reopening

-

Treemont independent living residents received their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine on Feb. 22.

“We are thrilled that our residents are now vaccinated and we can reopen our community dining room on March 15,” said executive director Rodney Brooks.

With the exception of a few weeks, residents have had their meals delivered three times daily to their apartments.

“We are ready to seat residents in the dining room and have residents enjoy one another’s company,” Brooks said.

A key reason seniors move to retirement communities is to avoid isolation and have people around. Even for the socially shy senior, the opportunity to socialize three times in the dining room keeps residents socially connected and engaged.

“Treemont is also starting to build back its robust activities program that had been scaled back during the past year,” said activity director Rose Lau. With 250 events a month, Treemont Retirement Community in Houston creates a dynamic and social place to live that residents love to call home. Such activities include painting classes, creative writing, backyard barbecues, swing dances, exercise classes, and the Gardening Angels club.

Treemont finds every reason to celebrate. Last May alone, for example, they enjoyed a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta, Kentucky Derby Fete, Mother’s Day Social, and Memorial Day Celebration. In between

festivities, they took a virtual trip to France, exploring the country’s culture, geography, history and cuisine.

“Our residents have been asking me for months when we can resume some semblance of normalcy. I think that time is now,” said Lau.

During the pandemic, Treemont continued its bus excursions to the Texas Star Winery, to the Bayou Wildlife

Zoo, and to view the Christmas Lights, among other attractions. These trips will begin anew.

Treemont is proud of its response to adversity and the way its team members, residents and families have responded to the pandemic and will continue to practice safety measures. They are excited for what 2021 will bring.
