SUNNY CHIN
1947-2021
Sunny Chin, 73 years old, met his Lord Jesus Christ on March 10, 2021. Sunny was born in Brooklyn, New York on Father’s Day, June 15, 1947. He lived most of his life in Houston, attending University of Houston, College of Pharmacology. After retiring from his retail business, C&G Pharmacy, he volunteered at his church, Northwest Assistance Ministries, Mission Greenspoint, and various homeless ministries. He loved to tell stories of his many adventures and experiences, and to share how “God showed up” in various scenarios.
Sunny was the family’s “marathon man” not only because he ran them but because he would always go the extra distance to help others. While working at the VA pharmacy, his first job, he applied his intelligence and skills in math to get the old punch card computer working when no one else could. They called him a maverick back then, which was true. Not many of us have such a true servant ’s heart, always ready to lend a hand and to give whatever he had. His life was an embodiment of the Golden Rule. When we worried about his diagnosis he said in his comforting matter of fact way, “That’s Okay, I’d rather it be me than somebody else.”
Sunny was preceded in death by his parents, Den B. Chin and May Chin. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, June, and children, Candice, Penny (Dean) Hsu, Jason (Phong), James, and Jessica; his grandchildren, Joshua and Clara Chin, and Abigail Hsu. He also leaves behind a sister, Yvonne (Norman) Lee; and brothers, Ken (Cecilia), Mel (Helen), Wayne (Wendy), and Warren (Melody). Numerous family members and friends will also miss him.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 26, 2021 at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home, 13102 North Freeway, Houston, TX 77060 from 4pm to 7pm.
The Celebration of Life he requested will be on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Champion Forest Baptist Church, Champions Campus, in The Chapel, 15555 Stuebner Airline Road, Houston, TX. Viewing at 1pm. A Celebration service at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Sunny’s memory to Champion Forest Baptist Church-CMC, Chinese Baptist Church, Mission Greenspoint, or Home Place of Texas, an organization for adults with disabilities that is dear to his youngest daughter.
