Astros update: The Astros are off to their first 4-0 start since 2001 and outscored the A’s 35-9 during a four-game drubbing in Oakland. … Michael Brantley likely is out for Monday’s game and could miss Tuesday, too, after taking a 90.2 mph fastball off his right wrist in Oakland. … Yuli Gurriel had two three-hit games against the A’s last weekend. He did not have any during the 60-game season in 2020. … Jose Altuve is 6-for-16 replacing George Springer in the leadoff spot.

Angels update: Astros pitching coach Brent Strom warned last week that the Angels are the most dangerous offensive team in the AL West and the one that concerns him most. L.A.’s lineup has Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, Anthony Rendon, Albert Pujols and David Fletcher, who just signed a contract extension. … The Angels remade their bullpen this offseason with a group that includes former Reds pitcher Raisel Iglesias at closer and sidearmer Steve Cishek, who was in Astros camp as a nonroster invitee but was given his release the week before opening day. … Houston will miss Ohtani on the mound after the two-way star started Sunday’s game against the White Sox and hit out of the two-hole.
