Leigh Henderson Cox, Jr., 95, died peacefully on April 8, 2021 after a fall and brief illness. Leigh was born in Huntsville, TX to Leigh and Jewel Cox. He attended Rice Institute where he earned both his bachelors and master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineerin­g. During WWII, he served in the Army Air Corps as a flight navigator. After graduating from Rice, he met and married the love of his life, Lorene Medford and they remained married until her death in 2008. He worked for many years at Humble Pipeline Co. (Exxon), then for Brown & Root (Haliburton).

He lived most of his life in Houston until he retired and moved with his wife, Lorene, to his ranch in Walker County Texas where Leigh lived until the time of his death. Leigh loved to travel and explore various cultures and had traveled extensivel­y. Sitting on his porch, enjoying the outdoors was a favorite pastime in his later years and he loved to gather there and tell stories about the places he’d been, the people he’d met, and the impact of culture on the world today.

Leigh was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Medford Cox and is survived by his daughters, Catherine Cox Sullivant, Susan Jewel Cox, Carolyn Cox O’Donnell (Joe), and Virginia Cox Brown. He also leaves behind six grandchild­ren and three great grandchild­ren. A private burial will be held at Walker’s Chapel Cemetery in Reklaw on Thursday, April 15 and a Celebratio­n of Leigh’s Life will be held at noon on May 22 at his home in Shiro, TX.
