One woman has dropped her sexual assault and harassment lawsuit against Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson while another filed a similar suit on Wednesday, the same day most of the 22 accusers publicly identified themselves to the court.

The woman who dropped her case Tuesday night cited privacy and security concerns just days after two civil courts ordered some of the accusers to amend their lawsuits with their names. A new lawsuit also was filed Wednesday, keeping the number of allegations pending before Watson in civil court at 22.

Defense attorney Rusty Hardin said he had no comment on the dropped litigation. The woman’s attorney, Tony Buzbee, said people had figured out who she was and were disparaging her, leading her to say that she wasn’t sure if she could handle any more.

Buzbee added that he might refile her case should she decide to do so.

“It appears the Watson team thinks that if these courageous women are forced to identify themselves, they would slink away and not pursue this matter,” Buzbee said in a statement Tuesday night. “Watson and his counsel badly miscalculated.”

Hardin pushed for the women’s names to be made public in order for him to properly investigate and respond to the claims, a right that he said Watson was entitled to under Texas

Rules of Civil Procedure.

One woman has yet to share her name with the court but has agreed to by noon Thursday, Hardin said.

The Houston Chronicle typically does not identify victims of alleged sexual assault or harassment.

Watson is now legally accused of assaulting 22 massage therapists and wellness professionals during sessions in Houston, Arizona, Georgia and California in 2020 and 2021. He has denied the accusations, in which most of the women say Watson reached out to them to schedule massage sessions and then engaged in sexual misconduct.

He was usually naked, exposing himself, the women allege. Others said he asked for massages in inappropriate spots on his body, touched their hands with his penis, masturbated in front of them, or in three instances, forced or coerced oral sex, according to the lawsuits.

The newest lawsuit alleges that Watson mentally wore down a makeup artist, who also gives massages, with repeated requests for her to touch his penis. She said she finally succumbed to the pressure and Watson masturbated against her hand, ejaculating on her, according to the lawsuit. He also groped her and tried to kiss her, she claims.

Watson’s attorneys on Friday claimed that any sexual contact that occurred with the women was consensual.

Hardin has until Monday to file his first response to 16 of the lawsuits.
