1926-2021

-

Sue Stamper “Susie” Reynolds, age 94, a native Texan, died on April 12, 2021, at her home in the Traditions in Houston. She was married to Joe Hunter Reynolds for 62 years when he predeceased her on December 18, 2009. Joe and Susie had been married on July 14, 1947, at Houston’s South Main Baptist Church. She was born on August 7, 1926, in Alice, Texas, to Harry Newton Stamper and Margaret Daniel Stamper. She grew up in Houston and graduated from Lamar High School and Baylor University.

Susie was a proud member of both the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and the Daughters of the American Revolution, and she shared her mother’s passion for history and genealogy. Susie and Joe were members of Second Baptist Church in Houston, where Joe taught their Sunday School Class, named “Nothing but the Truth” and later “The Gospel Truth” Class. Susie and Joe felt that the class was like their “church in the wildwood” and shared a special bond with all its members. Susie and Joe were strong Christians and established and honored as their life message this passage from Romans 1:16 “I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ.”

She was a loving mother, grandmother, and greatgrandmother, and is survived by her sons Hunt Reynolds

of Kerrville and Dan Reynolds and wife Nancy of Brenham; daughter in law Laura Reynolds of San Antonio; grandchildren Jennifer Reynolds McEwan and husband John of Austin, Clay Reynolds and Danielle Reynolds of Brenham, and Lisa White and husband Kent of San Antonio. She is also survived by great-grandchildren William McEwan and Charles McEwan of Austin, Bryson Reynolds and Hadley Reynolds of Brenham, and Campbell White and Kaden White of San Antonio.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 20, at Forest Park on Westheimer, where Susie will be buried beside her beloved husband Joe. A memorial lunch will follow at 11:30 at her favorite restaurant, The Taste of Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Boys and Girls Country (www.boysandgirlscountry.org), a 501(c)3 charity that held a special place in Susie’s and Joe’s hearts.
