Reds lose Votto, beat White Sox

CINCINNATI — Cincinnati’s Joey Votto fractured a thumb during a 10-inning, 1-0 win over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday.

Votto was hit by a Dallas Keuchel pitch in the fourth inning. Votto remained in the game, but in the sixth was replaced at first base by Kyle Farmer. Votto is not expected to need surgery but could miss up to a month.

Jesse Winker hit a winning single in the 10th inning. RANGERS 3, TWINS 1: Hyeon-Jong Yang made his first major league start after 14 years in the Korea Baseball Organizati­on, getting Texas off to a strong start in a win at Minnesota. Yang, the former KBO MVP, struck out seven of the first nine batters he faced and eight overall in 3 1⁄3 innings.

CUBS 6, DODGERS 5 (11): Anthony Rizzo capped Chicago’s two-run 11th inning with an RBI single, and the Cubs beat struggling Los Angeles to complete a three-game sweep at Chicago. Jake Marisnick homered, and the Cubs swept three from the Dodgers at Wrigley Field for the first time since 2008. The Dodgers lost for the 13th time in 17 games.

BRAVES 5, NATIONALS 3: Marcell Ozuna hit Atlanta’s third grand slam in four games, Max Fried pitched five strong innings in his return from the injured list, and the Braves won at Washington.

TIGERS 6, RED SOX 5 (10): Jeimer Candelario hit a tiebreakin­g three-run homer in the 10th inning, and Detroit held on for a win at Boston.

BLUE JAYS 9, ATHLETICS 4: Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Teoscar Hernandez and Randal Grichuk drove in two runs apiece as Toronto won at Oakland.

RAYS 3, ANGELS 1: Brandon Lowe hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning and four Tampa Bay pitchers held host Los Angeles to one run.

INDIANS 5, ROYALS 4: Josh Naylor homered in the ninth inning, sending Cleveland to a win at Kansas City. Naylor greeted Wade Davis (0-1) with a leadoff drive to right for his second homer.

PADRES 4, PIRATES 2: Yu Darvish struck out eight in 5 2⁄3 innings, Victor Caratini homered and Jake Cronenwort­h hit a go-ahead, two-run single in the sixth inning as San Diego won at home.

PHILLIES 5, BREWERS 4: Didi Gregorius hit his eighth career grand slam and host Philadelph­ia beat Milwaukee for its third straight win.

CARDINALS, METS SPLIT: Paul DeJong hit a tworun homer, Paul Goldschmid­t added a solo shot off Marcus Stroman and host St. Louis defeated New York 4-1 in a doublehead­er opener. In the second game Tomas Nido hit a two-run homer and Jonathan Villar added a solo shot and an RBI single, powering New York to a 7-2 win for a doublehead­er split.

MARLINS 8, DIAMONDBAC­KS 0: Adam Duvall hit his fifth home run and finished with four RBIs, Miguel Rojas scored three times and five Miami pitchers scattered five hits to lead the Marlins over Arizona at Miami.

ROCKIES 6, GIANTS 5: Jon Gray tossed six strong innings and helped himself with an RBI single, and Colorado held off San Francisco at Denver. Gray (4-2) allowed two runs and four hits.
