Astros (16-15) update: Yordan Alvarez, who homered twice off Gerrit Cole on Thursday, is batting .400 with nine RBIs over his last 12 games. He has eight extra-base hits (four doubles, one triple, three home runs) in that span. … With his 135th home run, Jose Altuve on Thursday passed Richard Hidalgo for sole possession of 10th place on the club’s all-time list. Jose Cruz is ninth at 138. … Carlos Correa is hitless in his last 19 atbats and has a .237 average and .281 on-base percentage over his last 15 games.

Blue Jays (16-14) update: George Springer, who didn’t debut with Toronto until last Friday because of an oblique injury, won’t be facing his former teammates this weekend. The outfielder, who had a two-homer game Saturday, is back on the injured list with a right quad strain and is expected to miss more than 10 days. … Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is having the breakout campaign everyone was waiting for. Despite going 0-for-5 in Thursday’s 10-4 win at Oakland, the 22-year-old first baseman is slashing .330/.465/.592 with seven home runs and 22 RBIs. He had a threehomer game last week, something his Hall of Fame father never accomplish­ed. … Outfielder and Lamar Consolidat­ed alumnus Randal Grichuk has hit .355 with 10 RBIs over his last seven games.
