JOAN RITA SAAD

1929-2021

-

Joan Rita Saad passed into the hands of the Lord on Monday, May 10, 2021. She was born to the late Walter Weidman and Buelah (Ransomer) Weidman in Grosse Pointe, Michigan on April 13, 1929.

Joan grew up in Michigan and upon graduating from the University of Detroit, she taught kindergarten for a number of years. On August 16, 1952 she married George M. Saad II and was soon thereafter blessed with five beautiful children whom she raised with patience, discipline, and humility. When her youngest child was four, the family moved to Houston, TX where they lived for 27 years. As the children went through middle and high school she was a tireless team mom, never missing games and always loud and proud cheering on her kids with her cowbell. No one was ever a stranger and over the years in Houston, her children would bring home friends who very quickly became her “adopted” children. Joan always opened her home and heart with love and kindness. Sunday dinners and family gatherings were always special with 20+ guests and the dining room table extended into the front hall.

In 1989 George and Joan moved to Kerrville, TX where she lived for 27 years. Joan was an active parishioner of the Notre Dame Catholic Church, hosted annual family Easter and Thanksgiving celebrations at her home and enjoyed life in the Texas Hill Country.

The past six years Joan has resided at Belmont Village in Austin, TX and attended Mass at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. Joan prioritized her Catholic faith and family. She loved animals and enjoyed the outdoors, sunsets, bird watching, and going to the beach but above all she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all that knew her.

Joan is survived by her children, Katherine Terry and husband Larry of Marrietta, GA, Walter Saad and wife Susan of Austin, TX, Mary Saad Williamson of Marrietta, GA, John Saad and wife Jinny of Austin, TX, and daughterin-law, Rebecca Masterson Saad of Austin, TX; seven grandchildren, Daniel, David, Matthew, Rachel, Theresa, Sarah, and Michael; niece and nephews from beloved sister Rosemary, Mary Fran Flanagan and husband Art, Ed Doyle, and Chip Doyle. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, George M. Saad II, her son George M. Saad III, her sister Rosemary McGovern, her brother Phil Weidman, and her parents.
